September 13, 2021Learn 3 things to include in your morning routine.
Are you gearing yourself up for those school mornings? The rushing, the screaming, frustration and exhaustion that can all happen even before you leave the house. What were once calm summer mornings in your house has turned into absolute chaos. With lunches to be packed, sunscreen to apply, hats and matching socks to find, it is no wonder your morning may feel chaotic!
Let’s start the 2021 school year off with consistency and calm mornings by following a morning routine!!
Get everyone’s day off to the right start and rejuvenate those calm mornings you once had.
Morning routines benefit you and your child — they set the tone for the day, allow some independence and set clear expectations for your child.
Here are 3 things to include in your morning routine!
- Use visuals for any age! Research shows that we remember visual images much easier and better than words. Using a visual schedule, your child can check in to see what is coming up next, creating independence because they no longer have to check in with you. There is no negotiating with a visual schedule!
- Plan for Extra time and Plan Ahead! This one is so important. Things that we cannot control can slow us down in the mornings…maybe its traffic on your commute or a spill before leaving the house. Leaving extra time in your mornings will help maintain a calm environment for both you and your kids. When you are calm, your kids feed off that energy and stay calm too. Planning ahead will help keep you calm and sane! Have clothes laid out the night before, lunches made and packed as much as possible. Do bath/shower routines in the evening and if you’re really looking for calm mornings, wake up before your kids do!
- A visual timer – There are some pretty awesome visual timers out there now, one being from Time Timer. A visual timer helps put the concept of time into perspective for your child, while also creating a clear “end” to the task at hand. Using timers can also develop time management skills as your learn how much time is needed to complete their tasks.
Creating a calm morning routine benefits parents and children alike! Kids feel like they have some independence and parents are calm with their mornings prepped and planned the night before.
We wish you a great FIRST day back to school!
